Crazy Simple Tips and Tricks to Be Prepared for Winter Camping

When you think of camping, what do you think of? Warm summer air, bugs, heat, swimming, and the summer breeze blowing through your hair. Forget all that. Seriously. While camping during the summer months is great, it’s what everyone tends to do! There’s a whole season of winter out there that are just waiting to be camped in. If you’ve never branched out and gone winter camping, you don’t know what you’re missing. The bugs are gone, the moonlight is brighter than you’ve ever seen it before, and the night air is so quiet you can literally hear almost everything. Going camping in the winter is something that everyone should try at least once!

Crazy Simple Tips and Tricks to Be Prepared for Winter Camping

Winter camping is truly one of the most beautiful outdoor activities that you can do. It’s so peaceful, and if you’re lucky enough to be able to camp after a fresh snowfall, it’s beyond beautiful as well. If you can get over the fact that the temperatures are a little cold, you’ll have an amazing time seeing everything that winter Mother Nature has to offer. And remember, even if you just try winter camping for one night, it’s an amazing experience that you’ll have forever in your memory bank. Plus here are some camping food items to consider bringing.

Crazy Simple Tips and Tricks to Be Prepared for Winter Camping

Pack Accordingly

Understand it’s going to be cold. Pack accordingly. Camping out in the woods can get super cold really quickly, especially if you haven’t packed or prepared accordingly. Think in your mind of several long-sleeved tops, pants, and coats that you need to pack, and then double that amount. You know what they say, right? You can always add on more layers to get warm!

Thermos

Everything liquid will freeze. If you have a thermos, bring it. And before you pack it, pack some water, soup, coffee or hot chocolate in it for later. When you’re feeling a bit chilly, you’ll be so thankful for having something warm, even if it’s just lukewarm at that point.

Enjoy The Moon

Sit outside and enjoy the moonlight. Trust in the fact that there is nothing like the glow of winter in the moonlight when sitting right outside your camper or tent. And if it has recently snowed, there won’t even be a need for flashlights or anything else to help you see.

Tarp

Bring a tarp to lay under your tent. If your winter camping happens to involve a tent, bring a tarp to put down underneath. Creating a barrier between the cold, cold ground and your sleeping back is essential in helping to keep your body warm. Here are plenty of other tent hacks as well!

Portable Restroom

Bring something with you to use as a restroom. I know, it sounds odd. But trust in the fact that at some point in time during your camping adventure you’re going to need to use the restroom. There are actually portable toilets that you can purchase and take with you camping, and that is a purchase I’d highly recommend.

Save packing room and leave the bug spray at home. One of the best aspects of camping in the winter? NO BUGS! No mosquito’s buzzing around, no flies, no gnats…nothing. All that you’ll see in the air around you is your breath.

Always change out of the clothes that you wore during the day. If you’ve ever wondered why people say to not sleep in the clothes that you’ve worn all day, you’ll find that answer out when winter camping. Even if you feel like you’ve spent the day freezing, your body is still sweating a little. If you go to bed at night with those same clothes on, that sweat will cause you to never feel warm! No matter what, change out of the clothes that you wore during the day. You’ll be amazed at how much warmer you’ll feel.
